Minneapolis Lawn Grasses
What kind of grass do you have in your Minneapolis lawn? Cool season grasses start growing at around 40 degrees Fahrenheit and experience their best growth between 50 and 75 degrees. They typically grow best in spring and fall, and produce a thick carpet-like lawn. These include bluegrass, fescue, and rye grass. Warm season grass grows above 50 degrees and does well between 75 and 95 degrees. These grasses typically turn brown in cold weather and die when temperatures approach zero. Zoysia grasses are warm weather grasses and are not commonly seen in Minnesota lawns, since they turn brown and die in the winter.
